Ryan’s asthma puts him in hospital for several months a year. Most of that time is in intensive care. He has post-traumatic stress from being intubated so often.

Life isn’t easy for Ryan, and his wife Misty and their two young daughters, Matilda and Violet. Misty is a single parent for the long stretches of time when he’s in hospital. 

When Ryan has an asthma attack, he starts taking small, quick breaths. Then he starts gulping for air. His panic rises as it gets harder and harder to get any oxygen in. Ryan knows if he doesn’t get to a hospital in time, he could die.

For Ryan, bushfire smoke, pollens, temperature changes, storms, colds and flus and stress are all triggers. Failing to read the signs or being too far from medical help can be, for Ryan, the difference between living and dying.
